They surveyed 142 soccer players, 37 coaches, and 57 parents to identify everything and anything that makes sports fun for kids. Of this, 81 specific determinants of fun were identified. The participants then ranked them on their importance
The results revealed that Being a good sport, Trying hard, and Positive coaching were the three most important factors when it comes to having fun. On the other side, Winning ranked near the bottom of the 81 factors. Swag, meaning cool uniforms and gear, was the very least important factor.
By clarifying the most important factors to fun in youth sports, the study aims to help coaches, leagues, and parents create a more enjoyable youth sport experience. More fun also translates into higher participation rates and healthier kids. Now that’s a win for everyone!
